Events And Rides

HWBG organises an annual fund raising "Pleasure Ride" in the autumn which is advertised in our newsletter and the Friday Ad.

This is a 10 mile circular ride (which is sometimes ridden twice making a 20 miler – rider´s choice) over private farmland and bridlepaths commencing at Withyham, near Hartfield in East Sussex. At the beginning of the ride there are a few hills providing magnificent views of surrounding countryside. The ride then becomes flatter with long straight riding along a reallocated disused railway line. The old railway stations and sidings can be clearly identified. There is a very quiet short stretch of road work and very few gates.

The ride is enjoyed by all with good parking and refreshments available at the venue. It is extremely well organised – although on one particular occasion the starter must have become tired as a group of 4 riders did the whole ride in reverse - but still thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

An ideal ride for everybody, particularly a young horse on its first pleasure ride.
